PhysioExcel will be transitioning to a mixed billing model from 1 June 2026. This change allows us to continue providing high-quality, individualised physiotherapy care that reflects the time and clinical complexity involved in each consultation.
Why We Are Changing to Mixed Billing
Medicare is a public health insurance scheme that provides rebates to patients for eligible health services. As care plans are limited to five sessions per year, there can sometimes be confusion across services regarding session usage, which has resulted in declined Medicare claims.
Under Medicare bulk billing arrangements, appointment times are typically limited to around 20 minutes. At PhysioExcel, we provide 30-minute consultations to ensure each patient receives a thorough assessment, individualised treatment, and adequate time for education and ongoing care planning. This allows us to focus on quality care and better support your recovery and long-term outcomes.
Therefore, to improve transparency, and continue delivering high-quality, patient-centred care with appropriate consultation time, we are transitioning to a mixed billing model.
Our Billing Structure
Our mixed billing fees reflect the time and complexity of each consultation.
Bulk Billing Eligibility
We will continue to bulk bill, Children under 16 years of age, Pensioners (with a valid concession card),DVA card holders (with a valid card)
Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plans
For patients with a valid GP Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, the consultation fee is $93.50. Payment is required upfront. Medicare will rebate $61.80, resulting in an out-of-pocket cost of only $31.70. Medicare rebates typically take between a few hours to 48 hours to arrive in your bank account.
Private Health Insurance
The consultation fee is $93.50. Patients with private health insurance that includes physiotherapy cover can continue to claim their rebate on the spot. The rebate amount will vary depending on the level of cover included in your policy.
